FATW6 – Adventures in Mosaic Crochet – Ocean Theme – My Anchors

We have reached strip 11 of 13! One more week to go. Todays release is called My Anchors and was designed by Lana Ignjatovic of Loving Stitches Designs. Lana is our designer friend from South Africa.

As the ocean creatures swim to and fro and play among the coral and waves, something else you would see at an ocean or associate with a nautical theme would be anchors. When something is anchored, it means that it is being held in place; secured. An anchor as an object, is usually made of metal and is used to secure a vessel to the bed of a body of water. Anchors can come in different styles, such as the scoop type and claw type, among others, While the original anchors were rocks and stones, they have evolved, moving to iron and other metals. Anchors can be permanent or temporary. This beautiful anchor pictured below is more the typical style. Would love to know where it has been, and the secrets of the sea that it holds.

And now, something about our designer. She is indeed very talented.

“I am privileged to live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Cape Town, South Africa. I learned to crochet in September 2013. I tried to make a granny square, by following a YouTube video, but it just did not come out right. (I still have it). My Aunt, who is also my Godmother, Helen Spence, then taught me over the telephone to read a crochet pattern and to make a 3D square….and that’s when I got hooked. I’ve never looked back from there.

I really love making blankets and have made and gifted blankets to just about all my immediate and extended family members. My other passion is to teach others to crochet. I started teaching in September 2015 and I’ve taught more than 200 ladies to crochet since then.

I have designed patterns for various items of clothing, but still need to finalize the written patterns, have them tested and then loaded onto my Facebook Group, Loving Stitches Designs.

I have compiled a crochet teaching syllabus for Loving Stitches Academy, which is my passion and the main focus of my business. Loving Stitches Academy – HERE

On the 2nd of December 2020, I founded and launched the Crochet Guild of South Africa. This is still a work in progress and I have many ideas and plans for the Guild.

My other hobbies include sewing, embroidery, reading and cycling. The latter two I don’t get to enjoy as often as I’d like to, because it’s not that easy to cycle and crochet at the same time. ☺”

You may recall that Lana Ignjatovic also participated in FATW5 with her patterns the Muizenberg square and the Protea and Fynbos square. Such pretty designs with a story of their own.

Anchors away! The My Anchors strip looks great in any color. Thank you to our Makers for their beautiful work! Thank you to our designer Lana for the beautiful pattern! We look forward to sharing more of her patterns during this CAL, not just in Ocean theme.

You will find the pattern here, can download right from our blog to the pattern.

And now, as promised last week, here is a sneak peek of the border for the CAL blanket. This is what the back looks like. Stay tuned for the front. Next time… Please wait for the release of the pattern for the border. Don’t start anything on it yet. It will be next Thursday, August 19th, together with strip 13, not much longer and well worth the wait. Any posts with a border prior to that date will be removed so as not to confuse our members.

If you are not a member of the Facebook Group CAL – Crochet A Long, you can request to join here and then join the event. You will be able to get to the Event if you are a member.
