FATW6 Adventures in Mosaic Crochet – Ocean Theme – Mosaic Dolphin

Frolicking around in our vast ocean, a dolphin emerges today. This beautiful dolphin is designed by Suzanne Lively Boren, the designer of Mosaic Crab, Dancing Octopus, and Squid. The Dolphin is Strip number 9 for our CAL.

Dolphins are aquatic mammals within the infraorder Cetacea. While there are many varieties, one of the most common is the bottlenose dolphin. Most dolphins prefer warmer waters, but there are some that like the cold oceans. Dolphins have streamlined bodies, flippers, a blowhole for breathing, a thick layer of blubber, a two-chambered stomach, and conical teeth. They are considered intelligent, sensitive, and highly social, traveling in pods. They are also playful and can be seen leaping above the water surface. If you have ever seen them as they leap around you would agree that it is quite mesmerizing. It looks like a well-synchronized dance. So magical to witness.

Our designer today, Suzanne Lively Boren is from Not So Boren Crochet. She is a fairly new published designer, and we look forward to more of her beautiful works. If you have not made the crab yet, do at least check out her full bio in that post. The Mosaic Crab was the third strip in our blanket and Suzanne’s first published design. When Suzanne presented us with this beautiful dolphin, we knew it would be the perfect addition to our Ocean themed blanket. Each of our Makers made their own great version to really do the pattern justice.

These cute dolphins are all part of our pod, created by our Makers here at CAL Crochet A Long.

As you complete your dolphin, keep in mind that there are 4 more patterns plus the border. It is your option to make as many of the strips you want. It is your ocean adventure. The border pattern will be released along with strip 13, in two weeks. Please have patience as you await the border. If you are trying to do something on your own, we would appreciate it if you do not post it yet. Right now, while the CAL is running, it is best to stick to photos of the actual designs that are part of the CAL in order to avoid any confusion within the group. Perhaps next week we can give you a “sneak peek.”

    1. Follow directions in blog post if you are not a member of the group, but you can always work the patterns. Links to all patterns so far are at the bottom of each blog post.
