FATW6 – Adventures in Mosaic Crochet – Ocean Theme – Mosaic Squid

The Squid squad has arrived to be the fifth strip in our Adventures in Mosaic Crochet, Ocean themed blanket. You can have as many squid as your blanket requires. Three repeats of this will get you six squid! This is yet another cute pattern from Suzanne Lively Boren of Not So Boren Crochet. Suzanne says she got the idea to make this one as she was working on the previous one, the Octopus. Suzanne is extremely talented and we sure are enjoying her designs.

While having similarities with the octopus, the squid is not the same animal. They are actually considered cousins and are both part of the group Cephalopoda. They have soft, elongated bodies, bilateral symmetry, a mantle, large arms and 2 tentacles. They are considered highly intelligent and have a complex brain. Squid can change color for camouflage and signaling. Many species can eject a cloud of ink to distract predators. Squids are carnivores, and as their mouth is small, the food must be cut into pieces by the chitinous beak that has powerful muscles.

Our Makers have some sensational squid to show. As always, keep in mind that the small strip was only one repeat. For the blankets, we are working with two or more repeats, depending on the size of blanket you want. We are enjoying seeing everyone’s blankets grow and are amazed at how quickly some of you are working. There are blankets out there that will be quite a large size with 4 or 5 repeats! We cannot wait to see your completed blankets! Of course, you can do the one repeat if you are just starting out with mosaic, or just want to make a runner sized project. All of the color combinations are amazing!

Another thing to keep in mind is that as this is a CAL, please show your photos with only these patterns. If you do add different strips, save your photos and posts for when the CAL is finished. This will avoid any confusion in the group, and respects the designers of this particular CAL. We are thankful for this FREE CAL and we respect and appreciate everyone associated with it.

Please do read everything over, very carefully. There may be information here that can answer any questions you have.

Enjoy this pattern and please continue to share your photos.
