FATW6 – Adventures in Mosaic Crochet – Ocean Theme – Dancing Octopus

How does an octopus dance in the ocean? It WAVES its arms of course! I am sure it will be doing a real happy dance when it sees all the love it will be getting. Dancing Octopus, our 4th pattern of Ocean theme, is another pattern from Suzanne Lively Boren and joins Mosaic Crab. So this is her 2nd published pattern. Way to go Suzanne! As you have read in the previous post, Suzanne is a stay at home Mom of 4, happily married, and loves to crochet. She is a Maker for CAL Crochet A Long, tester for various designers and the Designer for Not So Boren Crochet. We appreciate all she does for our group and the crochet community at large. Not only is she very talented, but she is very speedy. If you are just joining in, do be sure to read her bio in previous post.

NOTE: When you start this one, and you are working it over a previous strip, skip the chain part of Row 1 and start with the sc part, which would be the end stitch, the back loop single crochet stitches and the other end stitch. Then move on to Row 2 and so forth.

Octopuses are blue-blooded, soft-bodied, 8 limbed molluscs of the order Octopoda. They inhabit various regions of the ocean, including coral reefs (a perfect fit for our blanket). They are bilaterally symetric, and have 9 brains!! There is a central brain, and then each of the 8 arms have a mini brain which allows it to act independently. This mini brain helps control the suction cups which are used to taste, grip and smell. On a recent trip to a local aquarium, I was able to observe this cute creature. What a face! And look at all those suction cups!!

Aren’t these all the cutest Dancing Octopuses? There is surely a big party going on with this ocean adventure and our Makers are helping with the celebration.
